Advocacy

In the Garinger community, we noticed that there was a need to promote the Urban Farm because of the food deserts in our area, the increasing rate of heart disease and the realization that their is a struggle to put food on the table. We realized that a great deal of the community was not aware of the healthy free, fresh vegetables available to their families. In addition, our community is a food desert area which means that it takes 10-15 minutes to drive to the nearest grocery store. However, there is a vast majority of convenient marts and fast food restaurants which does not promote healthy eating habits for our youth. We want our community as well as surrounding areas to be aware that they can utilize the Urban Farm to plant and nurture for their needs. Imagine having absolute control of what you can eat, directly from the ground to your kitchen table!
